As I write this, I'm a couple of months away from my two year anniversary of moving to Thailand and it has really sunk in that this is my life. Now when I say "I want to go home", I mean Chiang Mai and I'm speaking Thai without the huge mental strain and stuttering that it first took (although I'm sure I still sound like a kindergarten child). However, I can't gloat yet because reading and writing is still a guaranteed headache!
Our team here has grown like bamboo - it feels like it shot up overnight! Now I am used to having over 10 people bustling around in the office, and it feels so long ago that Create Thailand consisted of just the three women pioneering it. Our team has finished the Zhuang people project, is almost done with the projects for the Shan people of Burma, and we have just come back from India where I worked on a Sikh contextual gathering film.
As I delve more into the cultures around us, I am realising how true Ecclesiastes is when it says "He has also set eternity in the hearts of men" (Ecc 3:11, NIV). There are so many pointers and fore-shadowings of Jesus even within cultures that have never heard of Him, and in many ways our message of hope should really be presented within a dialogue, not a monologue to unreached nations.
Very exciting realisations, and always beautiful to discover in every new ethnicity. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to experience this through my work.
